Project Wikify: Quest for a proper English Gothic Wiki
Hello,
After Googling for a while, I came to the conclusion that there is no single proper English Gothic wiki(a).
There's a relatively huge Polish Gothic wiki at http://pl.gothic.wikia.com with 3482 pages at this time of writing.
But the largest English wiki, http://wogen.wikia.com, only contains 60 pages.
There also are a few smaller English Gothic wikis which are all less than 20 pages:
http://gothicgame.wikia.com/wiki/Gothic_Game_Wiki
http://arcania.wikia.com/wiki/Arcania_Wiki
http://gothicseries.wikia.com/wiki/Gothic_Series_Wiki
http://gothicuniverse.wikia.com/wiki..._Universe_Wiki
What I would like suggest is this:
- The merge of the aforementioned smaller Gothic Wikis into http://wogen.wikia.com
- Expansion of the WoGen Wikia through the import and translation of pages from http://pl.gothic.wikia.com
- The further expansion of the WoGen Wikia through the addition of original content researched by the WoGen/WorldofPlayers community
The goal of this Project is to 'Wikify' the Gothic series, i.e. document all the known information about the Gothic games in a wiki format in the English language.
The advantages of having such a large English Gothic wiki are obvious; All the information you would want to know about the Gothic series would be in one place for easy lookup.
I have already started preparations for step one, the merge, by messaging the founders of the aforementioned wikis, but I cannot complete this project alone; I need the help of the WorldofPlayers Community (meaning you guys ;)
"How can I help?", you ask?
Well, there are multiple ways to help:
General Guide to Adding Awesome Content (tm):
- Play any of the Gothic games for a bit
- Go to the Gothic wiki (http://wogen.wikia.com) and document what you have found in the game
- ???
- PROFIT FOR EVERYONE! :D
Screenshots Guide:
- The actual resolution and game quality of the screenshot does not matter much, but obviously higher is better.
- Make sure the subject of your screenshot is clearly visible and unobstructed.
- For weapons, shields, magic, food and other items visible when your character uses them, please try to include the character in the shot as well as the subject.
- Make sure the background is somewhat neutral, meaning no battle screenshots for weapons (unless you also made a neutral screenshot) and no plot spoilers if possible.
- Using a 'freecam' mod or cheat to get a better view of the item is encouraged if such a thing is available for the game in question.
- With items, please also take a separate screenshot of their inventory icons.
- If you're any good at Photoshop/other image editing tools, please crop your screenshot to only include the subject (and the character if applicable) before posting to the wikia or this thread.
- If not, please post your screenshot to this thread so that one of us may do so.
For any questions, comments, remarks, etc. simply reply to this thread and I will do my best to answer them.

Whenever I'll have time, I'll machine translate some pages from the Polish wiki and then grammar/spell check and correct them. I'll publish the stuff here via the spoiler element and you'll be able to use it if required. So yea'.. count me in!
-
Yea that is sad but as soon as I have some time I will add some pages to wogen gothic wiki.

Nice! Posting it to this thread via spoilers is fine; in that case I can add it to the wiki.
However, editing the wiki yourself is preferred, since you'll also be credited properly that way.

Thanks, it's really great to see such strong support already, I (and probably the rest of the community) really appreciate it.

I'm not really good at writing and my English vocabulary is very modest. So after seeing how pages of even the less important things in game(such as meatbugs) are well written I wouldn't like to interfere and ruin it.
If there is another way I can help I'd be glad to.
-
Will do. I started with the more... lore important bits and will end with the small things, like the mobile game Gothic 3: The Beginning... that's, fairly unimportant for an example.

Well you can start by searching for things that are useful for wikia then you post it here and one of us that edit it will take a look and add it.

Exactly.
You can just make a rough draft of a page and anyone else can refine it after, you don't need to be good at English to help
This is the beauty of a wiki anyone can edit.

Good luck, Gothic definitely deserves a ultimate English wiki of the caliber of the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages or better. But a functional and useful one would be a great start.

Exactly, because right now, there simply isn't one.
There are only 60 pages on the WoGen wiki, and sixty pages definitely is not enough to properly cover all the content in the Gothic games.

-UPDATE-
I finished the weapons section on Wogen Gothic Wiki or WGW.
Links (pages I finished):
http://wogen.wikia.com/wiki/Gothic_1_Two-handed_Swords
http://wogen.wikia.com/wiki/Gothic_1_Two-handed_Axes
http://wogen.wikia.com/wiki/Gothic_1_One-handed_Maces
http://wogen.wikia.com/wiki/Gothic_1_Two-handed_Maces
http://wogen.wikia.com/wiki/Gothic_1_Hammers
Took me about 3 hours to finish everything, I will start the edit of other things as soon as I get some free time. I was really tired so if you find any mistakes feel free to correct them, if you dont know how then put them, then write here, me or someone will edit it.

Why do you have seperate pages for swords, axes, maces and hammers? There is no functional difference and where do you put stuff like the orc shaman's staffes?
I think there only have to be 4 articles for G1-weapons:
- one-handed
- two-handed
- ranged
- cheat-only weapons
The properties should include damage type and reach. I don't know if a cheat code is necessary.

Yep but I didn't put that it was already there and I didn't want to change that but thats a good idea. As far is code concerned you need to provide all the info on wikia and codes are one of them.

Actually... http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Weapons_(Skyrim)
Having it like this would be even better.
You would have one Weapons page for each of the Gothic games, with sections for the different categories of weapons and a short overview of their stats, with their names being links directing you to a more detailed page with methods of acquisition, appearances in the individual games and sections like bugs and trivia.
(Like this: http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/B...f_Woe_(Skyrim))
At least, this is what I'm hoping the Gothic wikia would look like one day.
We could start by creating some basic pages for each of the weapons with the game they are in in the title:
e.g. "Rusty Blade (Gothic III)" or "Broadsword (Gothic III)" and then have pages without the game names be a disambiguation page with links to the proper articles for each game.
(meaning this: http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Blade_of_Woe)
Also, nice job LastKnownMeal
EDIT: Added a screenshots section to thread.

Thanks, this will provide some nice stuff to put on the wiki.
Not all of it is in English though, but we'll manage.

Good stuff. The design looks a bit poor but the content is good to a degree.
Either way, I was able to hook up Milten into the WoG wiki. There's a lot of links missing as many of the pages are not yet created, so I'll leave it be empty for now, until I get all the links.
http://wogen.wikia.com/wiki/Milten
Future edits will follow, mind! Damn, I must say that it is some hard work getting the info fixed, especially the Polish wiki is FULL of unknown words that Chrome doesn't like. If I can get one character per day, I'll have the Character section filled nicely in a month... rich enough for our lore-hungry fans!
P.S.
Updated the wiki with a Gorn page as well, will continue to get the main group together, then link up all the names and places.

Nice job, although the infobox was hard to read because the text was white against a white background, so I changed the text color to black to fix this.
EDIT: I just realized that the other Characters on the wiki don't use infoboxes, but rather the 'Template:Characters' template.
We may want to change the Milten and Gorn pages to use this as well.
As for my contributions to this project, they will probably mostly be minor edits until i finish my first Gothic III playthrough (Don't want to spoil this great game )

Sure, I've seen it now that I checked out the source code. I'll change it as quick as I can, thanks for the point lad.
And sure, take your time. Though a playthrough with the Community Story project will be even better...

There's a Community Story Project?
Currently playing with just the base game + community patch.
Also, I'm in the process of changing the items page names on the wiki to resemble what I explained in my earlier post.
i.e. instead of "Gothic 1 Ammo" it's now "Ammo (Gothic I)"
I've already done most of the weapons: http://wogen.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Weapons
EDIT: Finished renaming all the weapons pages, also added proper categories for each of those pages.
I'm currently in the process of documenting all of Gothic III's spells (that I've found) and I already completed the infobox for the Light spell http://wogen.wikia.com/wiki/Light_(Gothic_III)
EDIT2: Added screenshot to Light spell infobox
